Moonlight in Virginia*
Where I am from, back home in Georgia, you will find people busy planning weekend trips for the month October. Weekend trips that have only one purpose in mind. Weekend car trips with the only intention of being in the car and driving toward the mountains to see the leaves changing. The most adventurous head for the Blue Ridge Parkway leaving home after work on Friday and nighting over in North Carolina to be out up and early to see the morning sun rise on the mountains. Equally as many travel along the mountain roads of North Georgia and South Carolina. All are breath taking as Mother Nature slips into something a little more comfortable and makes ready to settle in by the fire. Since coming to Virginia we are no longer part of the weekend crowd who simply want to see the mountain trees in her glory. We live in it. Gorgeous vistas and views bursting with a kaleidoscope of colors.
Not only has fall come to the mountains but fall has come our little farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Steven and I took a walk. A very short walk. Down our driveway.
Oh the things we saw!

Stepping into the driveway. We had a few rain showers that rinsed away the dust and winds that stirred the leaves.

Heading toward the frontage road. I love this view. I think I shall try to capture it in all seasons.

At the end of the drive. This Norwood Maple is always the first to don her finery. She is the most brilliant of all the trees in her firey glory of red tresses.

Her sister is always a late bloomer and never reaches the same depth of color.

A peek at the house as we head back up the driveway.

A glimpse of the silver maple witness tree in the orchard on the right. She is listed as the 15th largest maple in the Virginia big tree registry. We had her pruned at great expense this summer to save her from destruction from the weight of her arms.

We need to burn that pampas grass. I really dislike it.

It was warm Friday. In the 80’s. Can you see our barefeet? After a very long day we need the solitude and peace of feeling the warm breeze on our faces the damp ground under our feet.

A brief look into the orchard. Such a pretty picture under the arms of the giant silver maple.
As much as I love the blooms of spring and the renewing of green leaves and push of winter dormant pansies breaking the ground as they rise I am fairly certain that Fall gives Spring a real run for her money.
What are the views like where you live?
Don’t forget about the Fall Give Away. It only takes comment for your entry. Tell us about your pies!
*I took liberties with Moonlight in Vermont, 1943, John Blackburn lyrics, Karl Suessdorf music. This is one song that I always think of when I think of Fall.
Pennies in a stream
Falling leaves, a sycamore
Moonlight in VermontIcy finger-waves
Ski trails on a mountainside
Snowlight in VermontTelegraph cables, they sing down the highway
And travel each bend in the road
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely…Ev’ning summer breeze
Warbling of a meadowlark
Moonlight in Vermont
Telegraph cables, how they sing down the highway
And they travel each bend in the road
People who meet in this romantic setting
Are so hypnotized by the lovely…Ev’ning summer breeze
The warbling of a meadowlark
Moonlight in Vermont
You and I and Moonlight in Vermont

I LOVE that tree! We saw some red bushes while driving home from the movies yesterday and I thought to myself that we need to plant something that turns beautifully red in fall!
She is one of the prettiest trees I have ever seen, Jen!
Beautiful, Angie! Most of our leaves have fallen now but I’ll have to see if I can snap some photos of what’s left.
I’m stepping aside on the Fall Give Away to allow someone else the opportunity to bask in the glory of winning one of your prize give aways (not to mention, I haven’t baked a pie in YEARS though you ARE inspiring me!) Every day, I watch the mail anticipating the receipt of my Gone Country prize!
Bake a pie, Mary. Bake a pie! It’s easy.
Your prize was delayed last week. I had to go back to the doctor with this ruptured ear drum thing. No sooner did I get turned around and Grace had an asthma attack and that was another entire of doctors and pharmacies. Gracie is still home today. I hate when the cold air comes as she always gets sick this time of year.
Your trees are gorgeous – I so love Fall in Virginia! I was raised in Northern Virginia but we always spent Fall in the Blue Ridge and just marveled at the beauty. I miss Virginia. sigh…
Oh my, Angie! Take care of yourself and Grace! I hope everyone begins to mend soon!
I love these pictures so much. I would love a whole house and farm picture tour and especially the animals.
Be our Jackie Kennedy and let’s see all the beauty of your fabulous home.
It’s a mess right now, Betsy. I have to find spots for 23 huge potted plants and do some fall cleaning before I showcase any room. LOL Being down for so long with ear and sinus I think you understand. I’ll show her off for the holidays.
Beautiful pictures Angie! The leaves are changing here too and everything seems to be lit up by Mother Nature and her lovely colors!
Absolutely lovely. (btw did you get my email?)
