Honest Scrap

Susan from Smith’s Simple and Frugal Life tagged  me for this pay it forward meme with the following instructions –

“The Honest Scrap” award is not one to hold all to your self but it must be shared!

First, the recipient has to tell 10 true things about themselves in their blog that no one else knows.

Second, the recipient has to pass along this prestigious award to 10 more bloggers.

Third, Those 10 bloggers all have to be notified they have been given with this award.

Those 10 bloggers that receive this award should link back to the blog that awarded them “The Honest Scrap’ award.

10 new things about me –

1. I drink my coffee with cream, no sugar.

2. I have reached the point where I am glad to be done raising babies and don’t want any more for myself. I have 22 years of child rearing under my belt and the youngest is only 3 which means I have about 20 more to go. At the age of 43 that is frightening.

3. I am addicted to Facebook right now.

4. Very few people that I know in real life know about my blog. They aren’t computer literate for the most part and don’t understand the Geek Empire I live in being married to a software architect.

5. I check my stats once a week. Monday thru Wednesday is the biggest traffic days for bigredcouch.com with the largest number of visitors (not just to this blog) being 872 new visits in the last month as the highest number to day for one day. People rarely comment and though I don’t write for the sake of getting comments it can be disheartening and I have considered closing this blog more than once.

6. I have had a personal website since 1996.

7. I have had a blog in various forms since 1999.

8. The most popular page here is the wrap skirt tutorial. It has been linked to by thousands of other websites.

9. Not one of those people who use the tutorial leave a thank you. I usually find their blog post about making the skirt using my pattern but no word of thanks.

10. People have been stealing the images from my blog and reposting them on their own blogs. I have come to the conclusion that I will have to watermark every photo from now on, internet etiquette is something many people do not practice and more often than not people assume if it is on the internet it is free for the taking. Let this be a warning that often when I find my images being used without permission that I do often change them to very very ugly and not nice images so that the world knows the image was stolen. If this is you, please ask to use anything found here.

Now I have to link to 10 other blogs.

1. Back To Basic Living

2. Bespeckled Bunnies and Calico Chickens

3. Farm Life, Chickens and so Forth

4. Front Porch Indiana

5. Joy To The Blog

6. All Things Shea

7. Life On Sassy Cat Hill

8. Petticoat Junction

9. RennRatt

10. Curtain Call

Now, here is what I ask of you. Please visit each of these blogs. Please leave a little comment love and make sure you tell them Angie from Home Grown sent you with a link back to me. Please? Thank you.

Angie, it is terrible that people would steal your photos and not mention where they got them. I have never found any of mine being used elsewhere – so how do you find them?

I am familiar with only one of those blogs, but I will visit every one within the next week or so. Promise!

  • kenju says:

Angie, I just visited the 2nd blog. I enjoyed her story of how her grandmother’s candy dish was lost to her, but I can’t comment. Her blog is set up so I can’t leave a comment.

  • Lisa says:

I like reading your blog; you are one of the most creative (and thrifty — in a good way!) people I know. I think it’s helpful that you have it linked to Facebook. Maybe you’ll get more readers and comments that way. 🙂

  • Penny says:

Hi Angie! Thank you for listing my blog – I got two comments this morning saying “Angie sent me” and after the second one I thought “Let me see what Angie is up to” 😉 That was VERY sweet of you. I know how you feel about people not leaving comments – it really is very disheartening to poor time and effort into writing something that you can see many people read, but to get no comments what-so-ever. I’m afraid I’m guilty of not commenting as well – but I’m going to get better, darnit. And I’m adding you to my list of favorites on my blog site. Because you are.

PS Still LOVING the bird seed bags, and so are the recipients of the project. Thanks again for sharing it.

  • Penny says:

Oh! For some reason I didn’t “get” that you were tagging me with the award as well. I think everyone that reads my blog knows all about me since I tend to run my mouth a lot, but I will give it some thought, post about it and link back to you. Thank you!

  • Angie says:

Penny, it took me many days to think of something. I think I added one or two at a time until I got to 10. I blab about everything here, too. LOL

  • Angie says:

    Thank you, Lisa!!!

  • kBohr says:

I thank you for the link!
I am going to do the same for you as soon as I get my family their breakfast! 😉

  • susan says:

Hi Angie. I couldn’t figure out how to link on a reply so I wrote Angie @ HomeGrown.
I know what you mean about the kids. I started at 17 with my own and now I’m raising my great neices and nephew. At 51 I figure I’ll be lucky if I get to experience “Empty nest Syndrone” before moving in to the nursing home.

  • Mary says:

Thanks for tagging me, as well, Angie! It must be a “girl-thing” cause coming up with 10 things that people don’t know about me is going to be difficult. Very difficult.

  • Becky from MN says:

    Angie,

I enjoy your blog, mostly because it reminds me of our own farm. I appreciate the tutorials you give on preserving and making wonderful “home grown” foods. Please continue on – you have a wonderful blog.

  • shea says:

Thanks for the link! I wondered why people were saying they found me through your site. 🙂 I’ll be doing my meme this afternoon!

  • Angie says:

    Thank you, Susan.

    Mary, anytime!

    Becky, thank you so much.

I’ll come over for a afternoon visit to your blog, Shea.

  • caprilis says:

Thanks for the tag Angie… I’m really REALLY bad with these meme things, but I’ll try to get to it!

  • Angie says:

Don’t feel obligated. I didn’t send anyone a note that I tagged them. Don’t feel pressured to put up something you aren’t interested in participating in. I just wanted to send you some linky love. 🙂

  • Diane says:

I agree with what you have said & I comment on blogs that “feeds” me. I just found yours and it is great…you are now in my FAV’S!
Thank your for your time in sharing with us!

  • Angie says:

Thank you for dropping in, Diane. I look forward to seeing you return. Your link is incomplete and I can’t pay you a return visit.

  • kBohr says:

Ah…I hope you know you have created a MONSTER! In a good way! I NEED to go to bed, and THIS is why I don’t read good books at night! I get too interested and I can’t fall asleep!
Oh I also need to beg you to teach me to “embed” addresses into my blog so people can click on my faves like I was able to click on yours. Thanks!

  • Angie says:

Karen, you should be able to use the rich text editor on blogger to add links.

  • CeeCee says:

My goodness, you’ve been blogging longer than I knew there were even blogs!
I’m married to a computer geek too–computer engineer. Comes in handy quite often.:)

    How do you watermark pictures?

  • Angie says:

I’ll do a tut on them for you, CeeCee. Also – you know all about Geek Empires and understand my ‘pain’. 😉

  • Carrie says:

Just wanted to say that I enjoy reading your blog! It is my very favorite!! I have learned so many great things!

  • Angie says:

HI, Carrie. Thanks for commenting and letting me know you are out there. 🙂

  • Angi says:

    Hi Angie,
Love your blog, thanks for sharing with the world. I’m new to it, starting with some family adventures during the summer. Do you remember when you started? Do you have 1 or 2 pearls of wisdom for someone starting out?

I’m off to check in with your Honest Scrap list.

    Thank you again…very inspiring.

Helping Hands
Thank you for your generous donations to the rescue fund for Jack and Diana. Both of these wonderful Percheron horses were saved from the kill pens of slaughter auctions.

Jack is recovering from a severe leg injury and has many more months to go before his wounds are healed.

Diana could barely walk on her broken hooves. With extensive and expensive farrier work she is now standing tall and without pain.

She has at least a year ahead of her before her broken hooves will grow out to become healthy new feet to stand on. Her treatment will require ongoing farrier work expected to total into the thousands of dollars.

Jack and Diana both need a few hundred pounds on their bodies to be back in good health.

Through your generous donations and support Jack and Diana can expect a full return to their good health and sound footing.
